American Craft Week Begins this Weekend in Asheville and other WNC Locations
October 3-12, 2014 American Craft
Week A celebration of the wonders of American craft
and its contribution to the culture and economy of the country. Dozens of
participants in Western North Carolina host special events from open studios to
major gallery exhibits. This year's events kick off with an address by Asheville

Heritage Weekend at Asheville's Folk Art Center

Heritage Weekend
is a two-day celebration of traditional
crafts and music.
This 34th annual free festival is sponsored by the Southern Highland Craft Guild
and features traditional music, dancing and heritage craft
demonstrations. A highlight of the weekend is the 32nd Annual World Gee
Haw Whimmy Diddle Competition on Saturday, 2:00-3:00 PM. Joe “Colonel
Buncombe” Bly will emcee the competition.
The Folk Art Center is home base for the Southern Highland Craft Guild, the Center is the hub of traditional and contemporary mountain art and crafts, with changing exhibits in both the focus gallery and the main gallery and the permanent exhibit all styles are displayed. Demonstrations and educational opportunities are scheduled regularly and there are special events throughout the year. The members shop is visited by thousands of tourists and locals annually. The Folk Art Center is located at milepost 382 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville NC

Asheville Ooh La La Holiday Bazaar for your early Holiday Shopping
October 19 - Ooh La La Holiday Bazaar The Summer's Curiosity Markets are continuing with into fall with a great selection of local art and crafts for holiday gift-giving and celebration. Held in downtown Asheville's Pritchard Park from 10 AM to 4 PM.
The Holiday Bazaar will feature works by local painters, fabric artists, jewelry makers, potters , up-cycled crafters, and other curious delights, all beneath the colored canopies of large market umbrellas. The market will also feature live local music with three musical acts performing each Saturday and will include everything from a solo saxophonist to folk, blues, acoustic, and jazz acts.

8th Annual Sculpture for the Garden at Grovewood Gallery
Sculptures range from playful pieces suitable for the home or garden, to works for public spaces and corporate settings. Sculptures by local artists Gretchen Lothrop and Stefan “Steebo” Bonitz will also be on display at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and at Biltmore Park Town Square, respectively.

River Arts District Studio Stroll - A Favorite Asheville Weekend Event
June 8-9 Studio Stroll at the River Arts District The first, largest, and most walkable tour of working artists’ studios in the region, the River Arts District Studio Stroll takes place in 19 historic buildings along the French Broad River.
There will be artists’ demonstrations and hands-on activities throughout the weekend. There is plenty of parking and you can catch the trolley at Riverview Station or any of the stops listed on the map. An Information Booth is located at the 5-points intersection of Depot St. across from Clingman Café.

Twice a year, every second weekend in June and November, Asheville’s River Arts District opens to the public for two days of festivities known as the STUDIO STROLL. During the Studio Stroll, artists of the River Arts District welcome you into their studios to talk with them, see their latest artwork, watch demonstrations, and experience for yourself the magic hidden inside the time-worn factories which have been reborn as a thriving art center.
This unique neighborhood along the French Broad River is home to more than 165 artists with working studios located in 18 turn-of-the-century industrial buildings. The District also offers a variety of eateries from cafes to breweries.
