Performances include Long-standing house band The Stoney Creek Boys Bluegrass and Old-Time String Bands, Big Circle Mountain Dancers, Clog Dancers, Smooth Dancers, Ballad Singers and Storytellers. If you love old time Mountain music and Bluegrass this is the place to be.

Molly Rose Performs at Asheville's Homegrown in Pritchard Park

August 6, 2015    Homegrown in Pritchard Park  This performance features Molly Rose and Abby the Spoon Lady.  Free performances by local singer/songwriters each Thursday between Memorial Day and Labor Day at Pritchard Park in downtown Asheville NC. Held from 6 PM - 8 PM. 

HomeGrown in Pritchard is presented by 98.1 the River and Musician’s Workshop and is part of the Pritchard Park Cultural Arts Program from the Asheville Downtown Association.

Guitar Week and Contemporary Folk Week Begins Today at The Swanannoa Gathering

July 26 - August 1, 2015    Swanannoa Gathering - Guitar Week and Contemporary Folk Week  One of the finest programs of its kind anywhere, staffed by some of the world’s best players and instructors.  New instructors this year include Clive Carroll, Dakota Dave Hull, Bill Cooley, Allen Shadd, Jonathan Brown and Josh Goforth. 

Classes are offered in a wide variety of styles ranging from Celtic and bossa nova to jazz and blues.  Contemporary Folk Week celebrates23 years with a Gathering of another group of great artist/instructors offering a wide variety of classes designed to put music back where it belongs – in the hands of the mountain music lovers.

The last week of the Swanannoa Gathering, Banjo Week, Begins on August 2.

The Gathering is held at Warren Wilson College7011 Warren Wilson Rd in Swannanoa NC, located between Asheville and Black Mountain NC. Warren Wilson is the country’s only liberal arts college with a national student body and integrated work and service programs.

Tribute to Madison County NC Fiddlers

March 15 - May 15   Tribute to Madison County NC Fiddlers at the Madison County Arts Center, 90 S Main Street Marshall NC. Madison County’s premiere event featuring Bobby Hicks, Arvil Freeman, Roger Howell, Vipers' Dream featuring Adam Masters, Susi Gott, Jake & Sarah Owen and The Sons of Ralph. Admission: $20 - 3 PM and 7:30 PM performances.

Marshall is located just north of Asheville NC.

Banjos, Fiddles and Mandolins this Week at the Swanannoa Gathering

August 4 - 10   The Swanannoa Gathering   is Warren Wilson College's continuing education program of summer folk arts workshops held on the campus in the Swannanoa Valley on the outskirts of Asheville.

Each week offers a different instrument and/or musical style. This week is Mando & Banjo Week and Fiddle Week..
Public Concerts are offered at Kittredge Theatre at 7:30 PM throughout the Gathering.

Swanannoa Gathering this Week - Old Time Week

July 21 - 27   Swanannoa Gathering - Old Time Week Explore the rich music, dance, and singing traditions of the southern Appalachian region through a wide variety of classes taught by an experienced and supportive staff. Evening activities include jam sessions, singing, square dances, clogging, concerts, and the popular Late-Night Honky-Tonk Dance.

For those students bringing their families, we also offer a program for kids, but space is limited. The Children's Program for ages 6-12 features kids' activities scheduled during all the daytime class sessions, and evening childcare for ages 3-12 is provided at no additional cost.

85th Annual Mountain Dance and Folk Festival in Asheville

August 2-4   85th Annual Mountain Dance and Folk Festival  The nation's longest running folk festival, the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival showcases the top talent in traditional mountain music and dance during a three-evening festival at the wonderfully intimate Diana Wortham Theatre at Pack Place in Asheville NC.  Come enjoy performances by hundreds of the Southern Appalachians' best traditional mountain musicians and dancers and celebrate the treasured cultural heritage of Western North Carolina.

Since 1928, mountain fiddlers, banjo pickers, dulcimer sweepers, dancers, balladeers and others have come to enjoy themselves “along about sundown” the first weekend in August at the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival. At the  2012 Festival,  performers  will take to the stage for the 85th time in downtown Asheville at 7 PM each evening.

Tickets are for sale on-line before the event.
