Ooh La La Curiosity Market this Weekend in Asheville

August 31   Ooh La La Curiosity Market   An outdoor market in Pritchard Park featuring works by local painters, leather smiths, jewelry makers, potters ,up-cycled crafters, and other curious delights, all beneath the colored canopies of large market umbrellas. In addition to the artists, the market will also feature live local music with up three musical acts performing each Saturday and will include everything from a solo saxophonist to folk, blues, acoustic, and jazz acts.

International Nominee "Town Mountain" Headlines Friday Night at RiverLink RiverMusic Concert

August 23   River Music Concert Series   Dance under the stars next to the beautiful French Broad River at Asheville's new summer concert series hosted by New Belgium Brewing and RiverLink.  There will be New Belgium beer, a variety of good eats provided by your favorite Asheville food trucks and the waters of the beautiful French Broad flowing right by the stage. Best of all, these events are FREE to the public. Bring your lawn chair  and enjoy the view of the French Broad River.23 String Band and Caro Mia Featuring Bluegrass, Soul, Old Time Roots & Blues will perform at Asheville's premier multi-modal even.  The live music performance beside the French Broad River begins at 5 PM  at the RiverLink Sculpture and Performance Plaza in the River Arts District

The rain-or-shine event features five local craft brewers
: Highland, Pisgah, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium and Asheville Brewing Co. To feed the hungry, there will be foodtrucks: Melt Your Heart, Pho Ya Belly, The Low Down, Gypsy Queen Cuisine, and non-alcoholic beverages and other goodies from Ursa Minor.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive at the event at 144 Riverside Drive by bike, on foot, or even by boat. Watercraft can easily be landed at the new river access RiverLink had constructed at the site. Asheville on Bikes will offer a bike corral for safe bike parking. 

A new transportation option this year is the Gray Line Trolley. Gray Line Trolley has signed on to provide a shuttle between  the downtown area the RiverMusic site. This is being accomplished in cooperation with the Asheville Downtown Association. The trolley will loop between the event site and the Aloft Hotel. The last trolley will leave the concert site at 10 PM.

Ashevile Hosts the WNC Chefs Challenge Sem-finals

August 20 - 21   WNC Chef Challenge Semi-finals: 8/20 - Tomato Jam CafĂ© vs. Zambra ; 8/21 - Strada Italiano vs. DOUGH. Chefs battle for the championship and dinner guests will receive six courses (3 from each team) and will participate in scoring the dishes to determine the winner of the Chef Challenge Semifinals.

Special wines are selected based on the "Secret" ingredient and are available for purchase along with beers and cocktails.

August 16     Downtown After Five   From 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on North Lexington Ave. (between Hiawassee and the I-240 overpass) enjoy live music by The Revivalists and Lyric. The Revivalists are the next breakout band from the music capital of New Orleans. The group’s blend of soulful, syncopated rock and earnest songwriting comes to life through a meticulously crafted and ever-evolving live performance. 

Alcohol will be available with local brews from Highland Brewing Company, Pisgah Brewing, Asheville Brewing Company and French Broad Brewing Company. Plus, regional favorites Sierra Nevada and SweetWater Brewing as well as national brands from Budweiser of Asheville and Empire Distributing will be on tap. Anything That Floats Parade at RiverFest

August 10   Anything That Floats Parade   Teams of adults and/or youths build anything that floats without a motor with creativity, innovation and zaniness are encouraged. Rafts can represent a business, organization, group, or any personal theme. The parade begins at Hominy Creek Park and finishes at Jean Webb Park. The home-made crafts will be competing for the titles of Most Creative, Green Machine, Ugliest, Funniest, and Most Unique Design.

Folk Art Center Holds Annual Wood Day

August 10   Wood Day at the Folk Art Center   An annual celebration of wood crafts including craft demonstrations and hands-on activities. The Twelfth Annual Carve Off Competition takes place between 1 - 3 PM. For the contest, participants have two hours to turn a simple block of wood into a work of art. Carvers must sign up by 12:30 to participate.

Demonstrations include flute making, wood turning, broom making and furniture design and construction. FREE admission.

Banjos, Fiddles and Mandolins this Week at the Swanannoa Gathering

August 4 - 10   The Swanannoa Gathering   is Warren Wilson College's continuing education program of summer folk arts workshops held on the campus in the Swannanoa Valley on the outskirts of Asheville.

Each week offers a different instrument and/or musical style. This week is Mando & Banjo Week and Fiddle Week..
Public Concerts are offered at Kittredge Theatre at 7:30 PM throughout the Gathering.

Biltmore Hosts Radio Disney

August 3    Biltmore Hosts Radio Disney   The popular radio Network is bringing Disney Junior’s Pirate and Princess Summer and the Teen Beach Movie Beach Party to Biltmore on four select Saturdays in July and August. 

At each event, the Radio Disney Road Crew will provide interactive entertainment, fun prizes and music from kids' favorite artists. Families visiting Biltmore with regular estate admission on the event dates are invited to attend the Radio Disney events at no additional charge. Event-only tickets to Antler Hill Village at Biltmore are also available for $15 for adults and free for children.
