Swanannoa Gathering - Traditional Songs begins the Annual Event in Asheville Today

July 7 - 13    Swanannoa Gathering - Traditional Songs    A comprehensive program completely devoted to traditional styles of singing. Unlike programs where singing takes a back seat to the instrumentalists, it is the entire focus of this week, which aims to help restore the power of songs within the larger traditional music scene. This year’s program has several new features.

The week’s first night will feature the Gathering’s own Grand Ole Opry, with folks who have performed regularly on the Nashville stage. “Too Slim” from Riders in the Sky will emcee the evening with his hilarious Opry humor and his upright bass.

4th of July Events: FREE Concert in Pritchard Park

July 4   Homegrown in Pritchard Park - downtown Asheville. This concert features Juan Holiday. Free performances by local singer/songwriters each Thursday between Memorial Day and Labor Day at Pritchard Park  from 6 PM - 8 PM and sponsored by 98.1 The River radio station.

Song O'Sky Chorus brings Harmony to Asheville

January 13, 7 PM - 9:30 PM -  Start the new year off in harmony with the Song O'Sky Chorus and an uplifting evening.  You'll enjoy real harmony and real fun with this enthusiastic women's chorus. During the month of January Sweet Adeline International Choruses are joining together to celebrate harmony. The Event, held at Covenant Community Church (11 Rocket Drive in Asheville) includes an open house and more.

Buncombe County has recognized and honored the Sweet Adelines International as well as the local Song O'Sky Chorus by declaring January 13, 2013 Sweet Adelines International Week.

Song O' Sky Show Chorus is a chapter of  Sweet Adelines Internationalong, an organization dedicated to promoting and teaching one of America's original art forms: barbershop harmony, or four-part harmony sung a cappella (without instrumental accompaniment).

Asheville Symphony Orchestra Performs Bizet, Rachmaninoff and Beethoven

November 17 - The Asheville Symphony begins this evening's performance with unforgettable melodies and music of great color and vitality. It's young composer Georges Bizet's joyous score from his L'arlesienne Suite - a Parisian's take on the spirit and stories of southern France.

Van Cliburn medalist Joyce Yang joins the Symphony to play Rachmaninoff's popular and virtuosic work for piano and orchestra - his Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. From the cat-and-mouse chase of Variation 4 to the deeply emotional Variation 18, this is a work that tests the mettle and musical depth of any great pianist.

The concert concludes with Beethoven's brilliant Symphony No. 4. After his watershed ‘Eroica' Symphony, Beethoven had found his own heroic voice. With its mysterious introduction, contemplative adagio, off-kilter scherzo, and frisky finale, the ‘Fourth' marks a special place among Beethoven's enormously creative symphonies.

River Music Concert Series this Friday along the French Broad River

September 14   River Music Concert Series   Dance under the stars next to the beautiful French Broad River at Asheville's new summer concert series hosted by New Belgium Brewing and RiverLink. 

There will be New Belgium beer, a variety of good eats provided by your favorite Asheville food trucks and the waters of the beautiful French Broad flowing right by the stage.
 
Best of all, these events are FREE to the public. Bring your lawn chair and picnic basket and enjoy the view of the French Broad River.
