SOCON Begins this Week in Asheville

March 5 - 9, 2015   2015 Southern Conference Basketball Tournament   Downtown will be filled with 50,000+ basketball fans, all enjoying Asheville's shopping, dining and drinking during the course of the tournament. Men and women's games will be played at the ExploreAsheville.com Arena and Kimmel Arena on the UNCA campus. Visit website or call for game days and times.

Asheville Area Named Clean Cities Coalition

The U.S. Department of Energy on Monday, October 29, 2012 named the Asheville area a Clean Cities Coalition for its promotion of alternative fuels, clean cars and better air quality. The greater Asheville area has over 1,700 gas/electric and 1,300 alternative vehicles registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Vote Asheville "Best Mountain Town"

Asheville has been featured in a new online poll by Blue Ridge Outdoors for Best Mountain Towns and Outdoor Cities. There are three categories and Asheville is listed under mid-size mountain cities.  Asheville is currently in the lead for its category but with online voting, anything can happen. Only one vote per category per network address.

Other NC mountain cities in the small cities category include Brevard, Bryson City, Cashiers, Cherokee, Hot Springs, Sylva and Waynesville.

Winners will be featured in the Novemeber issue of Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine.
