Asheville Symphony Presents Symphonie Fantastique

violinist Chee Yun
September 15, 8 PM at The Thomas Wolf Auditorium in downtown Asheville - The Symphony season opener is a  lively beginning for the highly regarded Asheville Symphony.

The performance begins with Falla's colorful Ritual Fire Dance from his ballet El Amor Brujo. International star violinist Chee Yun will  perform Glazunov's Violin Concerto. The final portion of the evening is an infamous musical depiction of an obsessive infatuation: Symphonie fantastique, in which a beautiful Shakespearean actress was the object of Hector Berlioz's desire, and he poured his heart into a full-length, opium-fueled, larger-than-life Romantic symphony. With its witches' Sabbath dance and frenzied march to the scaffold, it is music with a sensibility for hyper self-expression as only Berlioz could imagine.
