Asheville Travel Blog Offers "Insider"Tips

Lexington Avenue is one of those iconic downtown streets with a deep roots in retail and trade. In a by-gone era the street was filled with farmer's markets and tobacco warehouses. Today you'll find cool boutiques, vintage clothing, a funky used book store and a plethora of delicious restaurants lining the road.
Every Tuesday is $5 Move Night at Fine Arts Theatre:
The Fine Arts Theatre is a downtown icon that presents first run, art and independent films in two auditoriums. Each Tuesday you can catch an indie flick for only five dollars all day long.
If you're not a fan of big budget studio films, then you will definitely enjoy the cool selection of film that play at the Fine Arts Theatre. They offer an array of art and independent films that celebrate the art of filmmaking. You can enjoy matinees and evening performances.
Daytrips for Cheese Addicts:
WNC Cheese Trail Offers Taste of Southern Culture. Taste your way across the Blue Ridge along the newly formed WNC Cheese Trail. You can sample of of the region's best handmade cheese and buy products directly from the producers. Be sure to pack a cooler to keep your dairy fresh and before heading out check the scheduled of each farm to make sure they are open to the public on the day you're traveling. Maps are available at the Asheville Visitor Center.

Asheville Introduces Horse-drawn Carriage Rides
New to the ever evolving and interesting Asheville scene is Silver Lining, a 2,000 pound Percheron Horse who is taking people on a fun and romantic tour of downtown Asheville. This newest addition to Asheville city streets is a throw back to the early 20th century, when Asheville's elite would parade through what is now Pack Square Park on their horses.
These special tours are available Thursday through Sunday: Thursday and Friday from 6 {M. through midnight, Saturday from 4 PM. through midnight and Sunday from 2 PM. through 7 PM. Rates are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12.

The Vanderbilts at Home and Abroad on Exhibit at Biltmore
Now through Dec 31 The Vanderbilts at Home and Abroad A new display focusing on the lives and personalities of George, Edith and Cornelia Vanderbilt, takes center stage in Biltmore's Antler Hill Village Legacy building. The exhibit offers a close-up look at exotic and rare items they collected throughout their lives, including an extraordinary collection of Samurai armor and an intricate Cartier vanity and lipstick case encrusted with diamonds and jade.
An early Harley-Davidson motorcycle representing the Vanderbilt’s love of motorized transportation will be displayed. The fascinating story of the fateful decision that saved the Vanderbilts from perishing on Titanic will also be told.
