Sara Shaefer Performs Tonight At Funny Business

April 30, 2015 at 8 PM ( doors open at 6:30) at Funny Business at the Millroom, 66 Asheland Avenue in  Asheville NC: Comedian Sara Shaefer performs. Schaefer is a critically acclaimed stand up comedian, writer, and producer currently based in Los Angeles.

She was recently the co-host of MTV’s late night show Nikki and Sara Live. Sara has appeared on @Midnight, John Oliver’s New York Stand Up Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Best Week Ever, and Inside Amy Schumer. She won two Emmy awards for her work at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and has written for BestWeekEver.tv and Who Wants to Be A Millionaire.

Grovewood Gallery Annual Charity Sale this Weekend in Asheville

April 17 - 18, 2015   Grovewood Gallery's 16th Annual Charity Sale   10% of all proceeds from this 2 day event will go to benefit Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville. During the sale, customers will be able to save 10% on all regular priced crafts, including studio furniture and outdoor sculptures, and up to 50% on sale items. Everything in the gallery will be marked down. 

Brother Wolf Animal Rescue is a No Kill organization in Asheville NC. In addition to offering services to the community including free spay/neuter assistance and a pet food pantry, BWAR operates the largest No Kill Rescue and Adoption Center in WNC, second largest in the state. The Joyce B. Cambron Adoption Center, located at 31 Glendale Avenue, is home to up to 100 dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens each day. In this clean, happy, and energetic environment, animals receive mental stimulation and exercise through a variety of enrichment programs. BWAR’s dedicated volunteers ensure that each pet receives lots of love and attention until finding his or her forever home.

Final Intersections Sing Together of the 2014/2015 Season at Diana Wortham Theatre

April 17, 6:30 PM in The Forum at Diana Wortham Theatre, 2 S Pack Square in downtown Asheville NC: Carl Sandburg's American Songbag. Pulitzer Prize winner, renowned poet, and national icon Carl Sandburg was also a collector of American folk music, which he published in his widely popular anthology, The American Songbag, in 1927.

Sandburg said "The American Songbag comes from the hearts and voices of thousands of men and women. They made new songs, they changed old songs, they carried songs from place to place, they resurrected and kept alive dying and forgotten songs." Sing Together" celebrates the joy of music and singing in these spirited sessions with musicians Beth and Jim Magill.

All skill levels are welcome; no experience required.

Addison Farms Vineyard Barrel Wine Tasting

April 11 noon, at Addison Farms Vineyard, 4005 New Leicester Highway in Leicester NC: This exclusive Barrel Tasting is all about the wine with the opportunity to purchase wine futures on the barrel samples. Join Jeff Frisbee, owner and winemaker, for a private tour of the vineyard to learn about their terroir and grape varietals, and then proceed to the winery to learn about wine making. The Asheville Downtown Association Creates New Media Showcase

The Asheville Downtown Association presents Downtown Digital: A New Media Arts Showcase. Downtown Digital will feature works by digital media artists in a one-night showcase at The Center for Craft, Creativity and Design’s covered parking lot at 67 Broadway on Thursday, April 16 from 7-10 PM.

Student, emerging and professional artists have submitted work including single channel projections, short films and abstract animations for this one-night event. The Asheville Downtown Association worked with the Asheville Area Arts Council, UNCA and The Center for Craft, Creativity and Design to create a concept to display digital media, which may be replicated for future events in Downtown Asheville NC. Downtown Digital is also supported by the Buncombe County Community Recreation Grant Program.

Asheville Wine and Food Festival Introduces New Competitions for 2015

2015 brings a New Culinary Excitement to Asheville 

AMUSE and ESSENCE - the newest artesian experience in Asheville. Distilleries, Mixologists and Chefs. The chefs are bringing their best culinary talents and the mixologists are presenting their best creativity. You taste and judge the best chef and best mixologist. 

The top chefs move on to the GRAND TASTING at the US Cellular Center and the top mixologists get to expand their performance at ELIXIR. 

What is AMUSE? AMUSE is culinary artistry and showmanship preselected by the chef and mixologists, intensified by the competition and emphasizing smaller, more intensely flavored courses. “The amuse-bouche is the best way for a great chef to express his or her big ideas in small bites.” May 1, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Morris Hellenic Cultural Center. 

Why ESSENCE? Essence of Food and Drink can be found in the fusion of flavors making each dish and cocktail unique. Fresh local ingredients are presented for your enjoyment. June 26, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Morris Hellenic Cultural Center. The list of renown mixologists will again compete to give you the most creative and flavorful spirits to lift yours. From the aperitif to the nightcap, samples will be provided by competitors to give you a taste of regional talent. 

Meet the distilleries in North Carolina, including moonshine from Troy & Sons in Asheville, Cardinal Gin from Southern Artisan Spirits in Kings Mountain, Rum from Muddy River Distillery in Belmot, Apple Moonshine from Petzold Distilleries, Howling Moon in Asheville, and TOPO Organic Spirits from Top of the Hill Distillery in Chapel Hill and more. 

Come and enjoy the food and sample wonderful drinks and spirits. Chefs and Mixologists will compete to see who will be represented at ELIXIR and at the GRAND TASTING. Get Tickets now on sale for the Soul Shakedown by the River

April 30th at the Boat House - Boogie down by the river at the Soul Shakedown with Lyric and Dr. Filth while enjoying great food, craft beer and wine. All proceeds will benefit Green Opportunities.

This not to miss soul shakin' party will kick of at 6:00 PM at the Boat House at 318 Riverside Drive in Asheville. Enjoy Asheville’s own Lyric playing a mixture of pop, soul and funk to get the crowd moving. To close the evening down, sounds of full funk, rhythm and blues provided by Dr. Filth from Saturday nights at the Admiral.

The Soul Shakedown will feature food from the Green Opportunities own Kitchen Ready Southside Kitchen, wine from Skyland and Catawba Brewing Co. Craft Brews, all included in the price of your ticket.

Asheville City Market Season Begins this Easter Weekend

April 4, 2015  The Asheville City Open Air Market   will be open on Saturdays 8 AM - 1 PM, April - December at the Public Works Building, 161 S. Charlotte Street in downtown Asheville NC and on Wednesdays at Town Square Blvd in Biltmore Park Town Square.
